The Womb Chair (1946) has an enveloping form that continues to be one of the most iconic and recognized representations of midcentury organic modernism. By applying foam molded over a fiberglass shell, Saarinen created a single-piece form that perfectly facilitates a relaxed sitting posture.

Wing Chair

Regarded as the “chair-maker of chair-makers,” Hans J. Wegner designed more than 500 chairs during his prolific career, some of which were never produced. Wegner’s Wing Chair (1960) wasn’t put into production until 2006, debuting at the IMM Cologne furniture fair, where it won a classic innovation award for its timeless appeal. This chair is named for its signature “wings”. Wing provides outstanding support for your entire upper body, with a roomy seat that lets you lounge in a variety of positions and finely hand-sewn upholstery.

At the very heart of Cinna’s expertise in the upholstery of chairs, Long Island brings together exemplary comfort, remarkable elegance and a wide choice of covering materials and colours. In 2016, the Long Island collection is being expanded to include an armchair and footstool. Remaining faithful to the original lines and comfort of the chair, the Long Island armchair invites one to sit back and dream.

The Project

The environments we find ourselves in greatly affect our moods. SQSP’s office is a designed space that evokes and stimulates creative thinking and problem solving. The aesthetic of this office is what helps designers and creative problem solvers to be in an environment conducive of innovation. We decided for our 2019 Hackweek project to educate SQSP employees on the design and furniture in this office that create an environment where innovation is cultivated.

The Office

New York-based architecture, design, and strategy firm A+I is designed the of headquarters of Squarespace in New York City - a home to one of the world’s leading voices in website publishing. With approximately 100,000 square feet, the Squarespace Headquarters span five full floors, a roof deck, a content studio in the basement, and an expansive ground-floor lobby/event space, in the historic Maltz Building – a manufacturing hub in the Printing House District throughout the mid-20th century.
